The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE 2023) Main is an all-India common engineering entrance examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes in NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutions and participating state engineering colleges. The exam is also a prerequisite for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The JEE Main 2023 is conducted in both online and offline mode.

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) 2023 comprises of two papers.

The Paper1 is Conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.E/B. Tech) at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), Institutions/Universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments, as well As an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission to IITs. Candidates of UPSEE (2021) will take JEE (Main) 2021.

The Paper 2 is conducted for Admission to B. Arch and B. Planning courses in the Country. From this year, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow will also use the score sheet of JEE (Main) – 2021 for admission to the B.Tech / M.Tech (Integrated)/B.Arch. Courses In its affiliated colleges across the State.

JEE Main 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

For appearing in the JEE (Main) 2023, there is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed the class 12 / equivalent examination in 2019, 2020, or appearing in 2021 irrespective of their age can appear in JEE (Main) 2023 examination. However, the candidates may be required to fulfil the age criteria of the Institute(s) in which they are desirous of taking admission.

Mode of Examination

JEE (Main)-2023 will be conducted in the following modes: 

  • Paper 1 (B.E. /B. Tech.) in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only.
  • Paper 2A (B. Arch): Mathematics (Part-I) and Aptitude Test (Part-II) in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only and Drawing Test (Part-III) in pen & paper (offline) mode, to be attempted on drawing sheet of A4 size.
  • Paper 2B (B. Planning): Mathematics (Part-I), Aptitude Test (Part-II) and Planning Based Questions (Part-III) in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only.

Paper 1 (B.E./B. Tech.):

This paper will have three parts, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The questions in this paper will be of objective type with four options out of which only one is correct. 

Paper 2A (B. Arch.):

Mathematics (Part-I) and Aptitude Test (Part-II) will be of objective type with four options out of which only one is correct.

Paper 2B (B. Planning): 

Mathematics (Part-I), Aptitude Test (Part-II) and Planning-Based Questions (Part-III) will be of objective type with four options out of which only one is correct.

Choice of Medium of Question Papers

JEE (Main) 2023 will now be conducted in Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu for the first time, in addition to Hindi, Gujarati and English.

The candidates can choose any of the three languages i.e., English, Hindi, and one regional language (one among Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati , Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam, Marathi, Manipuri, Oriya , Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu) for appearing in the examination.

Reservations

In the case of Institutes run by the Central Government, the reservation would be Applicable as mentioned below:

  • 15% of the seats Scheduled Castes (SC) candidates
  • 7.5% seats for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates
  • 27% seats for Other Backward Classes (OBC) Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) Candidates as per the Central List*
  • 10% of the seats for General Economically Weaker Sections (General –EWS) candidates
  • Persons with Disability (PwD) with 40% or more disability

Candidate's Choice of Examination Cities 

Candidates are allowed to choose any four cities as their examination centres from the list of cities given. out of these, their first choice Will be taken into account while allotting the centres. If the first choice Is not available, then the candidate's second choice will be considered and so on. However, due to administrative Reasons, a different city may be allotted.

Instructions for Filling JEE MAIN 2023 Online Application Form

Candidates have to apply for January JEE (Main)- 2023 “Online” ONLY by accessing the websites. www.nta.ac.in. The Application Form other than online mode would not be accepted, in any case. Only one application is to be submitted by a candidate. More than one application i.e. Multiple application forms submitted by a candidate will be rejected.

It is suggested that you have the following ready before starting the filling of the online application form:

  • A computer with good Internet connectivity
  • All your qualification details
  • Scanned clear passport photograph in JPG/JPEG format (size between 10 kb–200 kb)
  • Scanned clear signature in JPG/JPEG format (size between 4 kb–30 kb)
  • A valid e-mail Id as all communication will be made on this e-mail Id
  • A valid mobile number as all information via SMS will be sent to this number
  • A valid debit/credit card or Net banking account or UPI or PAYTM Service.
  • A printer connected to your system to print confirmation page
  • Download information Bulletin. Read it carefully to ensure your eligibility and acquaint with the requirements for submission of Online Application Form.
  • No correction can be made at a later stage after submission of an application. No change will be accepted through Post/Fax/ email / By Hand etc.

E-Admit Card

Candidates have to download the admit card from the NTA website. They will appear in the examination at the given centre on the date and shift/timing as indicated in their e-Admit Card. No candidate will be allowed to appear at the examination centre, on the date and shift/time other than that allotted to him/her in his/her admit card.

Qualifying Marks 

In order to qualify for JEE (Main)- 2020, a candidate must secure at least the minimum qualifying marks in each subject as well as in aggregate. The qualifying marks will be announced by NTA later.
